Wassily Kandinsky Quartet

Founded in 2023, the Wassily Kandinsky Quartet brings together the principal string players of the Kandinsky Orchestra in a chamber ensemble dedicated to artistic excellence and the performance of both classical and contemporary repertoire.

The quartet consists of the orchestra’s Principal First Violin, Principal Second Violin, Principal Viola, and Principal Cello. Drawing on extensive orchestral and chamber music experience, the ensemble has developed a distinctive artistic voice while remaining closely connected to the broader activities of the Kandinsky Music Society.

Since its formation, the quartet has given numerous performances and participated in hundreds of recording projects, becoming an active presence in  contemporary music scene. Alongside a substantial classical repertoire, the ensemble is strongly committed to supporting living composers and enriching the string quartet literature through the performance of new works.

Contemporary music lies at the heart of the quartet’s activity. Over the years, the ensemble has presented dozens of world and local premieres, working closely with composers and providing a platform for new artistic voices.

The Wassily Kandinsky Quartet appears regularly throughout the concert season, presenting approximately six concert programs each year. Through its performances, recordings, and premieres, the ensemble continues to connect the rich tradition of chamber music with the creative possibilities of today.

Diana Sargsyan is an Armenian violinist whose career spans solo performance, chamber music, and orchestral leadership across Armenia and Europe. A graduate of the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory with both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, she currently serves as First Violin of the Wassily Kandinsky Quartet and concertmaster of the Kandinsky symphony orchestra alongside her position with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.

Diana has performed as concertmaster and principal violinist with numerous ensembles, and has participated in prestigious international academies and festivals including the Tsinandali Festival in Georgia, the Toblach Academy in Italy, the AIMS International Summer Academy in Spain, and the Philippsburg International Summer Academy in Germany where she served as concertmaster. She has been invited to the Pan Caucasian Youth Orchestra program four consecutive times, a testament to her consistent artistic excellence.

Her competition achievements include Grand Prix at the AGBU Strings Music Competition, First Prize and a violin at the Stelele Romaniei Competition, Grand Prix at the Grand Music Art International Competition, and selection as one of three violinists representing Armenia at the Vienna Classic Strings Competition.

Aghavni-Ani Kharatyan — Second Violin

Aghavni-Ani Kharatyan is an Armenian violinist whose versatility and artistry have made her a valued presence across Armenia’s leading ensembles. A graduate of the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory with both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Violin Performance, she currently serves as Second Violin of the Wassily Kandinsky Quartet and principal Second Violin of the Kandinsky Orchestra alongside her position with the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia.

Her orchestral career has taken her through some of Armenia’s most prestigious institutions. She has performed as First Violin with the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet after A. Spendarian and currently holds positions with both the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia and the Artsakh Orchestra. She also serves as Concertmaster Illustrator at the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas.

In addition to her performance career, Aghavni-Ani has dedicated herself to music education, teaching violin at the A. Tigranyan Music School.

Lili Sevoyan - Viola

Lili Sevoyan is an Armenian violist and chamber musician based in Yerevan. She holds a Master’s degree in Viola Performance from the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory.

In 2018, she was awarded Prize Laureate at the Harmony Festival. She also participated in the Pan-Armenian Orchestra Generation of Independence project and attended the French-Armenian Summer Academy in Lyon, France.

Throughout her career, Lili has gained extensive orchestral and solo experience. She has served as Principal Viola of both the Concertante Chamber Orchestra and the Kandinsky Orchestra, performed as a violist with the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theatre, and appeared as a soloist with the Gyumri Chamber Orchestra and the Kandinsky Symphony Orchestra.

In 2023, she became a member of the ،Wassily Kandinsky String Quartet. In 2024, she toured France with the Assonance Ensemble. In 2025, she joined the Tagharan Ancient Music Ensemble as a soloist, reflecting her versatility across different musical periods and styles.

Her career spans solo performance, orchestral leadership, and international collaboration, establishing her as a versatile musician active in Armenia and abroad.

Andranik Aghajanyan was born on 22 May 2000 in Charentsavan, Armenia, and began his formal cello studies at the age of seven at the Yerevan Tchaikovsky Specialized Music School, where he trained for a decade before entering the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory. He completed both his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at the Conservatory, establishing himself as one of the most promising cellists of his generation in Armenia.

His competition record reflects a trajectory of consistent excellence from an early age. He claimed First Prize and the Special Jury Prize at the Renaissance Competition-Festival in Gyumri in 2011, followed by Grand Prix at the You Are Our Pride International Competition-Festival in Yerevan in 2012, and First Prize at the Music Internet Competition in Serbia in 2013. In 2015 he received a Special Diploma at the Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians. The most distinguished recognition of his early career came in 2019, when he received the Award of the President of the Republic of Armenia one of the highest honours bestowed upon young classical performers in the country. He continued his prize-winning streak with First Prize at the King’s Peak International Music Competition in 2021.

As a soloist, Aghajanyan has performed with the State Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, the AGBU Sofia Chamber Orchestra, and the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia. His international performance career has taken him to stages across Russia, Bulgaria, Spain, France, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Oman, and Greece. He has deepened his artistry through masterclasses with some of the cello world’s leading figures, including Narek Hakhnazaryan, Alexander Buzlov, Suren Bagratuni, Denis Severin, Alexey Seleznyov, Karen Kocharyan, Alexander Chaushyan, and Erkki Lahesmaa.

Beyond performance, Aghajanyan has distinguished himself through his commitment to education and cultural leadership. Since 2023 he has served as Lecturer in Chamber Music at the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory. He is also the first musician in Armenia to participate in and implement the methodology of the LOLA — Local Orchestra Leadership Academy — a programme dedicated to developing the next generation of orchestral leaders. He has additionally contributed to the Erasmus+-funded Musical Bounce Back project, which promotes repertoire by women composers through concerts, workshops, and international artistic collaboration across Armenia and Europe.

Andranik Aghajanyan serves as Cellist of the Wassily Kandinsky Quartet and principal cello of the Kandinsky symphony orchestra bringing his technical mastery, broad international experience, and deep commitment to both classical and contemporary music to every performance.

Oleg Vanidovskiy

Oleg Vanidovskiy is a professional violinist with extensive experience in symphonic, operatic, and ballet performance. From 2012 to 2022, he was a member of the First Violin Section of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra in Moscow, participating in international tours, major festivals, and recording projects.

Since 2022, he has been a violinist with the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet named after Alexander Spendiaryan in Yerevan, performing a wide-ranging operatic and ballet repertoire and collaborating with distinguished conductors and artists.

Oleg holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory. His musical education began at the Glinka Children’s Music School and continued at the Academic Music College under the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

With nearly three decades of musical training and professional experience, Oleg continues to contribute to orchestral and operatic productions with artistry, precision, and dedication.

Arusyak Shahazizyan is an Armenian violist recognized for her contributions to both orchestral performance and music education. Since 2018, she has been a section viola player with the Armenian State Symphonic Orchestra, performing a wide-ranging repertoire of symphonic and contemporary works in Armenia and abroad. Alongside her orchestral career, she has been serving as a Teaching Assistant at the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory since 2025, supporting the training and development of the next generation of musicians.

A dedicated performer and educator, Arusyak completed both her Bachelor of Music (2011–2015) and Master of Music (2015–2017) degrees in Viola Performance at the Yerevan State Komitas Conservatory. Her academic and professional experiences have provided her with a strong foundation in both solo and ensemble performance, with a particular focus on orchestral and chamber music.
